Our specialized tutoring services are focused primarily towards literacy, using Orton-Gillingham, a phonics-based teaching method, and other programs based on the needs of the student., Tutoring is also available for elementary math through Algebra 2.
Every student has a unique style of learning. This is why Loux Learning provides personalized lessons that are tailored to meet their each student's specific needs. There is no cookie-cutter approach that is used for each student. After discussions of the desired goals, and assessment of their current abilities, we find the best program that works for each student's unique way of learning.
Jan grew up outside of Philadelphia Pennsylvania in a large family that encouraged and inspired everyone to live a life of helping others reach their greatest potential.
Her passion for helping others experience the joy of learning led her into into the field of elementary education. She graduated with a Bachelors of Arts in Elementary Education from Eastern University in St. Davids Pennsylvania and has held teaching certificates in Pennsylvania, Illinois and currently in Michigan.
Throughout the past thirty-five years, she has had the privilege of serving in many different capacities in the education field. She has served as the Lead Teacher in 4th and 5th grade classrooms, a Reading Interventionist, a Teacher's Aide, a parent volunteer (as an active parent of four children), and as a tutor.
While there were many opportunities to get back into the classroom, it was her experience with having a child with learning disabilities that set her on the path to an approach of personalized one-on-one teaching. When it comes to helping children with learning disabilities it takes a great deal of time, commitment, and consistent effort by everyone concerned. The time that she invests with the students and parents helps them build the confidence to succeed both inside and outside of the classroom.
It is her giftedness of being able to connect with each of her students to help them discover how they learn best. As a student advocate, she helps both the students and parents through the learning process and puts the students on a path forward to accomplish their desired goals and outcomes.
Please contact us if you cannot find an answer to your question.
Reading (comprehension, fluency, and basic reading skills)
Math (from elementary to algebra II)
We offer both and will work with you to find what works best for your student and family. Factors to consider when choosing either option may depend on the desired time of day, distance of travel, availability of a public meeting location, and the age of the student to name a few.
We do not have a set number of lessons that are required to become a client. We understand that this is an investment in your student's development and want to work with you to make this as economical as possible. We do sign a Letter of Understanding outlining what is expected by both parties throughout the tutoring engagement to minimize questions.
On average the starting rate is $35.00 per hour. A normal tutoring session is for one hour but can be less if the student is younger or a number of other factors. We normally meet twice a week to ensure that the student recalls and uses the techniques and knowledge that is discussed during our sessions.
We can not guarantee specific results as there too many factors that are involved in a tutoring relationship. However, we will do everything to strive to reach the desired goals as quickly as possible. Our students typically see significant improvements in their reading and math skills that boost their confidence in their ability to succeed in the classroom and life.
